Examiner Duties:

  • Review, analyze, and score at least one written application
  • Participate in the consensus review process and site visit of the applicant's organization
  • Prepare the final scorebook that is the foundation for written feedback reports to applicants
  • Participate in a consensus review process and site visit to outstanding organizations

Examiner Selection Criteria:

  • Expertise in business, education, health care management, government, or not-for-profit sectors 
  • Knowledge of practices and improvement strategies leading to performance excellence
  • Length, breadth, and type of experiences
  • Analytical, communication, team and leadership skills
  • Related education, training, and/or certifications 

Examiner Code of Ethics:

  • Members of the Board of Examiners are expected to carry out their duties and responsibilities in the KAPE Award process in accordance with the Code of Ethical Standards

Examiner Appointment:

  • All candidates must complete an Examiner Application. If you are a new KAPE Examiner, please complete the New Examiner Application.  If you are a returning Examiner, please complete the Returning Examiner Application.
  • Examiners are appointed for a one-year term, but may reapply for additional service
  • Three-day uncompensated training is required each year. To minimize the need for travel, Examiner training will be held at various locations across Pennsylvania. 
  • Review of written applications is carried out at Examiners' work or home locations.  Examiners may need to travel to Consensus Meetings and Site Visits. Employers are encouraged to support employees who volunteer by giving them time to participate and by reimbursing their expenses
